What data we collect
This website collects minimal technical data for anonymous traffic analysis:
- Navigation data: pages visited, referrer URL, browser type, operating system, screen resolution, and country (derived from a daily-rotating hash of your IP address).
We do not collect names, email addresses, or any other personally identifiable information unless you contact us directly by email.
Analytics: Umami
We use Umami Analytics, a privacy-first, open-source analytics tool hosted on our own server. Key facts:
- No cookies are set, not even functional or session cookies.
- No data is shared with third parties or sent outside our infrastructure.
- IP addresses are never stored. Visitor identification uses a daily-rotating hash that cannot be used to track you across days or sites.
- Data is used solely for aggregated, anonymous traffic statistics (e.g. number of visitors, most visited pages).
The legal basis for this processing is our legitimate interest (GDPR art. 6(1)(f)) in understanding how the site is used so we can improve it. Given the anonymous, cookieless nature of the data, this processing does not materially affect your rights or freedoms.
Email contact
If you contact us by email, we will process your email address and the contents of your message in order to respond to your enquiry. The legal basis is the performance of pre-contractual measures (GDPR art. 6(1)(b)) or our legitimate interest in responding to business enquiries. We do not share this data with third parties, and we retain it only as long as necessary to manage the correspondence.
Cookies
This website sets one technical cookie: bsq-theme, which stores your light/dark mode preference in your browser's localStorage. It contains no personal data and is not used for tracking.
Data transfers
All data processed by this website is stored on servers located within the European Union. No data is transferred to third countries.
Your rights
Under the GDPR, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Request rectification or erasure of your data
- Restrict or object to processing
- Lodge a complaint with the Italian data protection authority: Garante per la protezione dei dati personali
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at hello@bytesquash.com.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy if our data practices change. The date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.
